Getting soft…Ahem are we?…Lowering the Bar

Raising and lowering a bar is a cliché for measuring our own, and our Nation’s moral, ethical, and behavioral standards. You see, America is like any other growing institution or organism which by their very nature grow and hopefully—mature.

Talk about ‘lowering the bar of acceptable standards – I can’t possibly wait until the U.S. government tries to sell us some crockpot full of it for why so many ‘illegal’s’ are living in our country. Enough said about illegal’s for now.

Most recently we have been looking at a 33-question test of very basic knowledge about civics in the United States. Having been educators, published writers, and statesmen in the U.S.A., I’m not sure if there is anyone more disappointed than those of us at The Thinker.

We have written about the obvious ‘lowering of the bar’ of academic standards; moreover, societal standards and how upon lowering the bar acts as a catalyst to the very fabric of the Nation. Additionally, we have shown how the various educational and civic orientated systems have with sleight of hand allowed for these various travesties to happen.

We have discussed at length how various (if not all by now) states have amended their criteria for graduating high school. Rather than not allowing a student the privileges of the graduation ceremony that they have not earned the people who are incessant about self-esteem issues, or any number of enabling, empowerment, or being ‘disenfranchised’ have devised Certificates of Completion so Johnny and Debbie won’t feel the negative effects. Negative effects of what I ask?

Of not being able to sit on the same stage, having their names called, and walk across the stage and receive something, whilst their friends who paid attention, and acted quasi-responsible graduated normally as any one of us who have graduated. And too many of you are allowing this to happen – not just in education either.

Folks what that amounts to is ‘getting something for nothing.’ Excuse me…but doesn’t that mantra, ‘getting something for nothing’ sound familiar? Sort of like the word ‘bailout’. Why have we lowered a simple passing level graduation to going through all the motions and receiving all the kudos yet not doing the work?

Please allow me to let you in on a little secret, maybe one of the best kept of all time. The test results are not an indictment of the education system in the United States. Ladies and gentlemen these results are an indictment of ourselves. This is an indictment of those who wish to ‘lower the bar’ with compromise after compromise.
It is time folks to draw a line in the sand…and stand firm…without compromise!

One Response to Getting soft…Ahem are we?…Lowering the Bar

  1. If I thought I was conservative, sleeping outdoors for 3 years changed my perspective. Now, I’m not the least bit bashful about asking people if they’re financially conservative or Biblically conservative. There is a big difference.
