The Chicago Public Schools this year are mandating that the district’s kindergarten classes include sex education, fulfilling a proposal President Barack Obama supported in 2003 when he served in the Illinois state senate and later defended when he ran for president in the 2008 election cycle.

At a Planned Parenthood convention at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C., on July 17, 2007, a teenage girl who said she worked as a sex-education “peer educator” in the D.C. public schools asked then-U.S. Sen. Obama what he would do to encourage the teaching of “medically accurate, age-appropriate, and responsible sex education.”

“And you know,” said Obama, “I didn’t know what to tell him. But it is the right thing to do, to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in the schools.”

And we agree with President Obama to a point. And any aspiring parents out there may as well take notes or at least print this article.

One of our primary issues here at The Contemplative Thinker is getting enough people to at the very least think of the age they are putting their children into school.

How many of us could stand up and say…”For my tender young years as a sophomore in high school, I’ve decided that Algebra will be of no use to me in the future so therefore I’m just not going to take the course…”Head Start

Oops! Then at a more advanced age this very same individual challenges his/her self and decides that the unplanned workforce really is not for them and decides to go back to college. I just wish I had a quarter for every other professor I’ve spoken with about how their students – in Algebra or any other mathematics discipline – come in wanting to end it all. I mean these students are so nervous they can hardly talk!

Is it surprising to you to know that these individuals perform at a higher rate than their younger counterparts? Seriously hands over fists better. One of our concerns here is that many people just start school too early in life.

And this one is for our arrogant president:

Since 1965, taxpayers have spent more than $180 billion on Head Start. Yet, over the decades, this Great Society relic has failed to improve academic outcomes for the children it was designed to help. The third-grade follow-up evaluation is the latest in a growing body of evidence that should urge policymakers to seriously consider Head Start’s future.

In 2010, HHS released the findings of the Head Start Impact Study, which tracked the progress of three- and four-year-olds entering Head Start through kindergarten and first grade. Overall, Head Start had little to no positive effects for children who were granted access.

Alarmingly, access to Head Start for the three-year-old group actually had a harmful effect on the teacher-assessed math ability of these children once they entered kindergarten. Teachers reported that non-participating children were more prepared in math skills than those children who participated in Head Start.

The bottom line: Washington’s 48-year experiment with federal preschool has failed to deliver long-lasting, positive developments for its participants. Still, many in Congress argue that the way to fix this is to increase funding for Head Start.

So what does he do about the sinking ship, disastrous, failing program that is really a means to childcare more than anything else. It started with Welfare reform and now Head Start is in the Obama Reform Mission.
Therefore we would like to ask Mr. Obama: What is the age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in the schools.” Moreover, isn’t that a topic which should start at home with parents or other family members?
