Educational Overreach..?
dreamact2 Fox News accused President Obama of a “constitutional violation” by claiming he enacted the DREAM Act in 2012 even though the legislation had not passed Congress. In    fact, Obama has not enacted the DREAM Act. The deferred action program for undocumented youth he announced in 2012 was an exercise in executive discretion and is  only a temporary measure that does not allow recipients to become legal residents or begin a path to citizenship, as the congressional proposed DREAM Act would have  done.

However let us be real and open about this conundrum. Here just as every other program that has been put forth by the U.S. government there has been no planning,  organizing, or time management. What is it about the executive branch and the legislative branches that have the uniformly ugly ideal that anyone can start a program – for  the benefits of many – and yet that is it?

Currently in New York City several advocacy groups have gotten together and started a campaign to assist those with deferred action to make sure and keep open their claims. Ostensibly when one is granted DACA they are  committed to the program for two years. At the end of two years, whose responsibly is it to renew their DACA status? Well it seems that this in and of itself is creating a substantial decrease in the amounts of renewals.

Here is a message that is being posted literally everywhere in the City:

“Don’t have immigration papers? Scared of deportation? Want to get a work permit?” a new flyer plastered around immigrant neighborhoods provocatively asks. The poster — in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, Haitian-Creole and Hindi — is part of a city-wide push to get more people to sign up for a special program called deferred action for childhood arrivals, which grants social security cards and work permits to young immigrants here illegally.

Deferred action is for undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. before they were 16, were born on or after June 16, 1981, have lived here since June 15, 2007 and are either in school, graduated or have a GED.

Now if we may, we all need to look at what was stated in the first paragraph of this writing. Where does the DREAM Act or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals mention anything remotely close to a path to citizenship? Just because some out-going senator or representative happens to mention (erroneously!) that a particular bill waiting to be debated on and passed or denied simply does not mean there is any credence whatsoever to citizenship. This is again another misunderstanding by illegal immigrants hoping, rather than to face the reality of what it is.
