Special Envoy for LGBT set up at State department
The first-ever special envoy for LGBT rights, a position created to advance the Obama administration’s efforts to eliminate violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people around the world, will be honored Friday at the State Department.
Randy Berry, who was named to the position, is a Foreign Service officer based in the Netherlands and is openly gay and married to another man.
“Defending and promoting the human rights of LGBT persons is at the core of our commitment to advancing human rights globally – the heart and conscience of our diplomacy,” Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement. “That’s why we’re working to overturn laws that criminalize consensual same-sex conduct in countries around the world.”
This perspective brings Obama, the Department of State, and the entire United States into the forefront; however, at the same time we at The Contemplative Thinker, remain in wonder why — yes WHY — this clamoring for a special envoy is necessary; moreover, committing “paid for” violence and discrimination against the LGBT communities in Africa.
This is a classic example of how the cultural changes embodied in the Western culture have a way of really messing things up. Let’s look at Secretary of State John Kerry’s statement. As far as leadership is concerned this is a misstatement above all. “That’s why we’re working to overturn laws that criminalize consensual same-sex conduct in countries around the world.” As for us this is preposterous!
First, what gives the leadership in the U.S. the right to overturn anything in any other nations social, political, or behavioral order? Seriously Barack Obama has made more mistakes during his terms in office than any other president could imagine. So seeing that his approval ratings are slumping he begins to do something to assist an issue that we have problems with in our own nation.
Secondly, we find what is happening around the globe to Coptic Christians — murdering, kids included, all facets of society by a different religious entity — Islam with absolutely nothing being done in any attempted effort to stop or dissuade the genocide occurring by this group.
Thirdly, where is the “advancement of human rights globally – the heart and conscience of our diplomacy,” found within our nation’s First Amendment rights? This again shows how Americas leadership is doing whatever it can — right or wrong — to involve itself in other worldly matters, rather than concentrating on Americas domestic issues or foreign affairs that have precedence over this behavior.
