PitchPerfect3 now a Victim..?

PitchPerfect3, and now Star Wars’ The Last Jedi fall feloniously to the “War”

hollywood-signActually, I’ve read a lot worse offensive spews about “The War” or otherwise known as the war on women. Realize of course that I make it a point not to write about such sleazy matters as all male or all female casts or who is making how much money for a film, or who is directing the picture.

One could find themselves out of a job – just ask the National Football League. Yet, quite openly it’s run its course since the opus of Kathryn Bigelow. Although she did win an Academy Award or “Oscar” in 2008 for the portrayal of the stresses on a bomb defusing crew.

Then again in 2012, she was nominated again for her brilliant direction in the film, ZeroMV5BNzEwNzQ1NjczM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTk3MTE1Mg@@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_ Dark Thirty, although she did not win she was still with incredible cohorts. If there is one iota of truth about Bigelow’s directing is that at least one cast member is worth seeing the show and they always get their nominations as well. (Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker, and Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty.)

I believe that Kathryn Bigelow has a healthy perspective on female directors. From an article, I read at IMDb, “If there’s specific resistance to women making movies, I just choose to ignore that as an obstacle for two reasons: I can’t change my gender, and I refuse to stop making movies. It’s irrelevant who or what directed a movie, the important thing is that you either respond to it or you don’t. There should be more women directing; I think there’s just not the awareness that it’s really possible. It is.”

MV5BNjEyMjk4NTE1NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTgzNzA3MjI@._V1_UX182_CR0,0,182,268_AL_She is right about “more women in directing.” Although the folks from Pitch Perfect 3 are already trying to come up with special costumes to wear to the Academy Awards show this year as did the patrons at this year’s Golden Globe awards by wearing all black.

As much as I do admire and respect Elizabeth Banks I still think she overreacted in her position as director for Pitch Perfect II. I must add that given the talent within the show furthermore, it was a much sought-after sequel, she did do an awesome job.

I would like to expose my significant opinion here: There have been quite many female directors such as recently Lina Wertmüller, Jane Campion and Sofia Coppola. There are of course many other females that are well represented in the film industry. But the next person I hear squabbling about how much more a man got for a film than a lady counterpart, I always get reminded that Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and many, many more are being paid nicely. Stop gripping!
