How Many of us Got Duped Today?
This is not a meant to be a funny title. Quite openly, let’s try “How Many of Us got fooled, tricked, deceived, conned, cheated, hoodwinked or at least one of my favorites, swindled today,” by our elected representative is also known as congressional members?
Q: Did the Obama administration advertise in January to transport 65,000 foreign children apprehended at the border? Did it expect a surge of illegal immigration?
A: Yes. There’s been a sharp increase in unaccompanied children from Central America since FY 2012, and the U.S. projected a bigger increase this year.
The abovementioned data was sourced from a FactChecked.org article written on July 14, 2014, by Lauren Shapiro and has a wealth of information in it pertaining to the crisis we are now dramatizing via news programs, advocacy groups and especially special interest groups. Here is the long form question asked on the survey.
- Q: Is it true that the US government advertised for “escort services for unaccompanied alien children” back in January 2014. And, if so, how did they know there would be this influx of children from Guatemala? (Or, some other country?)
Full Answer: The recent wave of publicity concerning the tens of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America being apprehended at the southwest border has unleashed a flood of emails from readers. Many of the emails refer, directly or indirectly, to a request for information submitted Jan. 29 by the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the Federal Business Opportunities website titled “Escort Services for Unaccompanied Alien Children.”
Some have asked if Homeland Security is paying to bring foreign children across the board illegally, based on some conservative websites that misinterpreted the request for information (RFI). Infowars, for example, claimed that the Obama administration is using “taxpayer money to escort illegal minors into the United States.”
Other readers, such as the one above, asked if the Obama administration placed the advertisement “back in January,” and wonder how the administration knew months ago that there would be a crisis at the border.
First of all, ICE did not solicit bids for vendors to bring children across the border, as Infowars claimed on its website. The request for information was referring to children who illegally crossed the border and were apprehended by Border Patrol agents. The private escorts would transfer “approximately 65,000” unaccompanied foreign children from Border Patrol facilities to Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement shelters.
This is appropriate for how a person gets duped. I am reasonably certain that most individuals can recall when busloads of foreign children were at scheduled stops in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Southern California when the people of those communities came out and protested where the buses gathered. This was a clear cry of American people stating to their government, “No it is not okay to bring these children to our community.”
And much, to everyone’s surprise, the busloads of children turned around and headed south toward the border. Now, I do not feel that is mean or unbecoming of any American to do so. This was when President Obama declared that these illegal immigrants were refugees rather than border-crossers.
Lastly, for tonight, when I type special interest group please bear in your mind the products and services that a child will need for living in the United States. Everything from the transportation companies, to fast food chains, to department stores, to bedding companies, and now, please think of every organization possible who will benefit from having an unaccompanied minor cross our border.
Just one more issue to be cleared up… President Trump is following the letter of the law regarding the separation of children, unaccompanied minors, from their UNproven parents. The law made by legislation in Congress stipulates that all people held at the border for trying to illegally gain access to the US will be held in detention — adults and children — are included. Why blame President Trump for following the law?
